Impact Gains

A youth-focused and people-driven security approach can strengthen community resilience in several key ways:

By engaging local communities in identifying their security needs and co-creating solutions, a people-centered approach empowers citizens to take an active role in enhancing their own safety and security. This builds community ownership and agency.

The people-centered approach helps ensure security services and interventions are responsive to the real concerns and challenges faced by local communities, rather than top-down, one-size-fits-all solutions. This improves the effectiveness and legitimacy of security providers.

A people-driven security framework brings together diverse actors-government, security forces, civil society, private sector – to collaboratively address community security issues. This enhances coordination and leverages the unique capabilities of different stakeholders.

By facilitating dialogue and joint problem-solving between communities and security providers, a people-centered approach helps build trust, social cohesion and bonding, bridging and linking social capital that are crucial for community resilience.

Rather than just focusing on immediate security threats, the people-centered approach seeks to identify and address the underlying socioeconomic, political and institutional factors that makes communities vulnerable to violence and instability. This supports more sustainable, resilience-building solutions.
